I was tormented with guilt when I realised that I had forgotten all about Hang’s English examination. And it was his very first formal examination. It was the Listening Comprehension paper.
When he got home from school, questions rained on him like the Japanese bombs on our island in World War II. Did you know that you’ve got a paper today? How come you din’t remind me? Did you know how to do all the questions? Did you bring your colour pencils? Was the paper difficult? Did your teacher read out the sentences or was it played on a CD? Were you able to hear properly?
He told me that he was initially confused between a butcher and a fish monger. But … but … he changed the answer the very last minute.
OK! OK! You erased but did you erase properly? His reply, “Colour pencil lei! How to erase properly! Sure got markins one!!!” My lungs were in my mouth and my hear in my foot! So, there I went, “But was the shade on the fismonger’s hair [that you've erase] lighter than the ‘black’ on the butcher’s hair?
Hubby: Maybe, Jack Neo can draw some inspirations from you for his next movie!
