By Left or By Right?

The key that unlocks our dreams.
Yet the spirit is laden.
Sometime in October, I met someone who shares my beliefs and passion in education and we became business partners.
Our search for a suitable premise to run our education center begun. But also our nightmare! The mammoth task of complying with the stringent rules and regulations of MOE and SCDF – being pushed from one officer from this department to another officer in that ministry. And at the end of the day, the landlord told us flat in our face that he rather not rent the unit to us as he did not want to get implicated with the authorities.
We did not give up. In November, we saw another premise. And relived that nightmare again. But this time, we engaged a professional to help us with the paper work to obtain the Fire Safety Cert. Dealing with officers, contractors, agents, landlord, ex-tenant was exhausting.
Just yesterday, I saw a unit nearby which was rented out almost the same time as ours. In fact, we had seen the unit before and knew that it was non-complaint with fire safety regulations. However, the center was already up and running (my guess is without proper licensing). And here we are – still shuttling back and forth trying to get all the paper work done.
I also learned of other education centers, some existed for more than a decade, which were not registered with MOE! We asked ourselves why bang our heads against the wall chasing after papers. Many had advised that in the business world, we need to “Go by LEFT”. No denial, we were tempted.
However, after much deliberation, we decided that the safety of our students and staff should not be compromised. We will never be able to live with the guilt if there were mishaps due to our negligence.
We are determine to develop good curriculum that can help our students, thus the need for audit and get our center registered with MOE.
Till date, we are still awaiting for approval from both ministries. May God hear our prayers and bless us as in our quest to “Go by Right”.
